Complete Central Italy

Description

During my last 6 month trip all over Italy for Motociclismo magazine, I have discovered magical and unknown places and entertaining roads. Something you mustn’t miss out on your Italian motorcycle holiday. We will head off  from the eternal city of Rome and I will bring you into the heart of Italy by visiting beautiful cities like Siena, Florence, Pisa and Perugia with their monuments, arts and their incomparable charm.  Getting to these places we won’t miss out on the Chianti area with its vineyards’ hills, the tremendous 5 Terre cliffs and the Gran Sasso National Park with its breathtaking landscapes. On the way back to Rome we will be visiting typical villages of Central Italy as Norcia, Spoleto and Orvieto less known from the flow of tourism. A visit to those places its worthed for their precious historical and artistic and their slowed down life pace. Don’t’ worry I don’t forget we are bikers! Some days will be completely dedicated to joyrides as we will be riding around the Mugello Circuit area with some of the most famous Italian passes for motorcyclists and through Monti della Laga.

  • Day 0
It’s the day of your arrival in Rome, our tour starting and finishing point. We meet at the hotel where we will get to know each other and from where we will go and pick up our bikes. Late evening we have our briefing dinner talking about our forthcoming adventure.

*If requested, the transfer service from\to the airport can be scheduled.

  • Day 1
Our first day sees us heading off to the National Park of Abruzzo. After a brief  lunch, the afternoon is dedicated to a countless succession of bends and beautiful mountain views where we can test our riding skills going from Lake of Scanno to the city of Sulmona, internationally known for being the city of almonds.
  • Day 2

Immersed by nature we ride through the savage mountains of Majella Park arriving at the plateau of Campo Imperatore, in the heart of Gran Sasso National Park. A day that we will end by staying in the city of Teramo for the night.

  • Day 3

The Gran Sasso National Park deserves another half day of our tour as in the morning we reach the striking lake of Campotosto, a very nice ride which will allow us to head to Amatrice, the city of the world famous Pasta alla Amatriciana. In the afternoon we go through Monti Sibillini on the Apennines where we finally arrive at Norcia at the end of the day. This is definitely a gastronomical stopover must!

  • Day 4

Today we leave Norcia heading to Mount Terminillo, the mountain for Romans. Through the barren landscapes of the “reatino” area we reach the astonishing Marmore waterfall. Spoleto is our last stop where we will spend the night.

  • Day 5

A scenic tour takes us into the green Umbria, the heart of Italy. Heading off from Spoleto, we do our first stop by taking a short break to visit one of the most beautiful squares in Italy, the Piazza del Popolo in the village of Todi. Then, we get back on our bikes to reach the holy town of Assisi, the town of San Francesco, arriving at Perugia for the night.

  • Day 6

It’s the day of our arrival in Florence! From Perugia we take a quick break to Castiglion del Lago, where we can have a coffee and take some selfies with the beautiful scenery of its lake in the background. We move on over the harmonious Chianti hills getting closer to the renaissance city of Florence, where we spend the next three nights.

  • Day 7

If you want to feel like a real biker, this is the day you shouldn’t miss! The day will be dedicated to hairpins and famous mountain passes of the surrounding Appennines of Florence. You will feel like being at the Tourist Trophy! A really tough day which sees us as protagonists on roads like the Muraglione Pass. An opportunity to discuss and improve our riding skills. After all, we are in the Mugello Circuit and Imola areas. Those who might want to relax can have one more free day in Florence between monuments and museums instead.

  • Day 8

A free day to spend in Florence, with the opportunity to take a guided tour.

  • Day 9

Today we head to one of the most beautiful sea places in Italy: The 5 terre! With a quick stretch on the highway from Florence, we can spend an entire day there, immersing ourselves in nature and taking pics of the unforgettable landscapes of the 5 Terre. Alternatively, we can take pics on a touristic boat sailing along the coast. We finally head back to our Hotel in La Spezia for the night.

  • Day 10

A day dedicated to the Alpi Apuane, the land where Michelangelo used to choose the precious marble from for his sculptures. We will enjoy our ride into this natural park taking two unmissable stops to visit the Fortress of Verrucole and Isola Santa. We spend our lunch time at Castelnuovo della Garfagnana, afterwards going down to the valley to stop for the night in Pisa.

  • Day 11

Rising early, we spend our morning visiting Pisa, the city of the leaning tower. Campo dei Miracoli is an image universally known which needs no introduction. During the afternoon ride we reach Siena where we stay for the night, not before having taken a break at Volterra though, an Etruscan town famous for its alabaster production.

  • Day 12

In the morning we visit Siena, the city of the famous Palio in Piazza del Campo. In the afternoon we ride to Orvieto, throughout the enjoyable successions of bends and landscapes into the Crete Senesi. A medieval city, Orvieto is dominated by its beautiful cathedral dome and is built on tuff rock.

  • Day 13

The penultimate stage sees us arriving at Monte Argentario. During the day we take our breaks at Orvieto, Lake of Bolsena and the town of Pitigliano, going through the Maremma Toscana.

  • Day 14

Our last day together! The best way to end our tour after having ridden through bends, hairpins, past monuments and amazing landscapes, is to spend our morning having a swim in the sea for total relaxation. In case the weather will not be on our side, we will head to Tarquinia to visit one of the best Etruscan museums. In both cases it is the day of our arrival in Rome where we hand back our bikes and have a farewell dinner at the Hotel.
