Central Italy Tour

Description

During my last 6 month trip all over Italy for Motociclismo magazine, I have discovered magical and unknown places and entertaining roads. Something you mustn’t miss out on your Italian motorcycle holiday. We will head off  from the eternal city of Rome and I will bring you into the heart of Italy by visiting beautiful cities like Siena and Florence with their monuments, arts and their incomparable charm. Getting to these places we won’t miss out on the Chianti area with its vineyards’ hills and the racing area of the Mugello Circuit with some of the most famous Italian passes for motorcyclists. On the way back to Rome we will be visiting the medieval Perugia where we will taste its well known chocolate and afterwards head to Norcia where, instead, we will have some different kind of tastings. I give you a clue: just eat a light dinner the night before! Our last stage will see us riding through the Gran Sasso National Park with its breathtaking landscapes.

  • Day 0
It’s the day of your arrival in Rome, our tour start and finish point. We meet at the hotel where we will get to know each other and from where we will go and pick up our bikes. Late evening we enjoy our briefing dinner talking about our forthcoming adventure.

*If requested, the transfer service from\to the airport can be scheduled.

  • Day 1

In the morning we get to Orvieto, through the Etruscan atmosphere of the Tuscia of Lazio. A medieval city, Orvieto is dominated by its beautiful cathedral dome and is built on a tuff rock. It was once the gothic Italian jewel. After a brief visit to this town and lunch, we ride on to Siena, the city of the famous “Palio di Siena” in Piazza del Campo. We will be enjoying the sequence of bends into Crete Senesi area.

  • Day 2

The first part of the day we are free to visit Siena until lunch. The afternoon ride will be dedicated to reach our final destination, Florence. Meanwhile, we will have time to have a stop at San Gimignano, famous for its own medieval towers and then we will drive over the pleasant Chianti’s hills to Florence, where we have dinner and stay overnight.

  • Day 3

If you want to feel like a real biker, this is the day you shouldn’t miss! The day will be dedicated to hairpins and famous mountain passes of the surrounding Appennines of Florence. You will feel like being at the Tourist Trophy! A really tough day which sees us as protagonists on roads like the Futa and Raticosa Passes. An opportunity to discuss and improve our riding skills. After all, we are in the Mugello and Imola circuits’ area. Those who might want to relax can enjoy one more free day in Florence between monuments and museums instead.

  • Day 4

A free day to be spent in Florence, with the opportunity to have a guided tour. Alternatively, a customized route can be planned!

  • Day 5

We leave Florence in favour of the Casentino area which allows us to reach the town of Arezzo for a brief visit during our lunch break. In the afternoon we ride by the lake Trasimeno, finally ending our daily ride in Perugia where we stay for the night.

  • Day 6

After a chocolate based breakfast, we leave Perugia to visit the close-by city of Assisi, where San Francesco, the patron of Italy and Europe, was born. Having finished our spiritual visit we head off towards Spoleto where we will be visiting the historical center, afterwards doing our final ride of the day to Norcia, the principal town of the Val Nerina.

  • Day 7

Our last day before heading back to Rome, we enjoy our last ride into the tremendous Gran Sasso National Park (2912 meters), having lunch at Campotosto being delighted by the magical surroundings.
After our last pass we reach the town of L’Aquila where after a short stretch on the highway we will get back to Rome.
